Learn to Play Hockey in Knoxville: January 2027
Learn to Play Hockey in Knoxville: January 2027 Registration Is Now Open
Is your child interested in hockey but not sure where to start? The Knoxville Jr. Ice Bears Learn to Play Hockey program is designed to give new players a fun, welcoming introduction to the game — and our next season begins January 2027!
Open to kids ages 5–10, Learn to Play gives young athletes the opportunity to build their skating and hockey skills, gain confidence on the ice, and discover what makes hockey such a great team sport.
All necessary hockey equipment is provided for rental during the Learn to Play season, making it easier for families to give hockey a try without purchasing a full set of gear before their child gets started.
A Beginner Hockey Program Built for New Players
Our Learn to Play program focuses on building strong fundamentals in an encouraging environment where kids can learn at their own pace. Your child does not need to already be a hockey player to join. Players will work on:
- Skating and balance
- Puck handling
- Passing
- Shooting
- Hockey movement and coordination
- Teamwork and sportsmanship
- Confidence on the ice
Hockey is about much more than scoring goals. As kids learn the game, they also learn how to work as part of a team, listen to coaches, overcome challenges, support their teammates, and keep trying when a new skill doesn't come easily.
Those lessons can stay with young athletes far beyond the rink.
What Is Included?
The January Learn to Play Hockey season includes 14 sessions of on-ice instruction with a focus on skill development, confidence, and fun.
All necessary hockey equipment is provided for rental during the Learn to Play season, including:
- Skates

- Shoulder pads
- Elbow pads
- Shin pads
- Hockey stick
Players will need to provide their own jock or jill, which is not included with the rental equipment.
